10-Day Cape Town and Kruger Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Cape Town
Your Ekuseni adventure begins as you arrive at Cape Town International Airport (CPT). Your friendly host will be waiting to provide a private, comfortable road transfer to your hand-picked accommodation.
This day is left free for you to settle in and unwind after your journey.
Day 2: Cape Town City & Mountain Magic
Starting from Cape Town, the town of your arrival, we dedicate today to exploring the city’s heart and its most iconic landmark. We begin with a visit to the brightly coloured neighbourhood of Bo-Kaap, where you can learn about its unique culture and history.
The highlight of the day is a trip up Table Mountain via the cable car (weather permitting) for truly breathtaking views. The afternoon is yours to enjoy, whether you choose to stroll through the vibrant V&A Waterfront or delve into South African history with an optional tour to Robben Island. All travel will be by private road transport.
Day 3: The Spectacular Cape Peninsula
Prepare for one of the world’s great road trips today as we tour the dramatic Cape Peninsula. We’ll cruise along stunning coastal roads, passing through charming seaside villages. A key stop is Boulders Beach, where you can get up close (but not too close!) to the resident colony of charismatic African Penguins. The journey culminates at the iconic Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, offering truly magnificent photo opportunities before we return to the city via our private road transport.
Day 4: Wine, Art, and History in the Winelands
A short, scenic road trip takes us away from the Atlantic and into the beautiful Cape Winelands. Focusing on areas like Stellenbosch or Franschhoek, you will experience the heritage and gastronomy of this region.Â
This day is flexible: we can tailor the focus to include fine dining, local cheese, or simply enjoying the historic Cape Dutch architecture and scenery before returning to Cape Town.
Day 5: Fly to the Wild Heart of Africa
After a relaxed breakfast, we transfer you via private road to CPT for your seamless domestic flight to the Kruger area (e.g., Skukuza or Hoedspruit). Choosing to fly is our primary recommendation for this long-distance journey, ensuring maximum time on holiday. Upon landing, a dedicated lodge vehicle will provide the final road transfer into the African bush. You will be welcomed to your camp or lodge, settle in, and then head out for your very first, unforgettable afternoon Safari (game drive) as the sun begins to dip.
Day 6 & 7: The True African Safari Experience
These two days are completely dedicated to the core reason you came to the bush: an authentic, intense Safari experience.
Your days will be governed by the rhythm of the wildlife. You will participate in early morning game drives as the animals are most active, return to the lodge for a relaxed midday break, and then head out again for a late afternoon game drive. This evening drive often continues after dark, giving you a chance to spot nocturnal animals.
With the guidance of an expert ranger, we will focus on tracking the legendary Big 5.
Day 8: Bush Walks and Cultural Immersion
To deepen your connection with the bush, we recommend you go on a thrilling Walking Safari this morning, allowing you to appreciate the finer details of the ecosystem. The pace of the day slows down as you might spot wildlife from your lodge deck or relax by the pool.
Depending on your lodge’s location, you may have the option of visiting a local community or simply dedicating more time to conservation talks and enjoying the tranquility of the bushveld before your final spectacular sunset game drive.
Day 9: Final Morning Safari and Transfer
We rise early for one last morning Safari drive, a final chance to catch a glimpse of an elusive leopard or a pride of lions.
After a hearty brunch, it is time to say goodbye to the bush. We transfer you via road back to the Kruger area airport for your flight to a lodge near O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) or back to Cape Town (CPT), depending on your onward travel plans.
We will ensure you are comfortably settled at your accommodation near the airport or within Johannesburg for the night.
Day 10: Departure
Your Ekuseni host will provide a private road transfer to the airport for your international flight home. This final day is kept free to provide maximum flexibility and buffer time for your departure schedule, ensuring a stress-free end to your incredible South African journey.

Common Questions, Expert Answers
How do we travel between Cape Town and Kruger?
The most efficient and recommended way is by flying. We prioritize a direct flight from Cape Town (CPT) to a regional airport near Kruger (like Skukuza or Hoedspruit). This saves you over 20 hours of driving time.
Is this itinerary flexible?
Absolutely. Flexibility is our motto. This itinerary is a starting point; we can easily extend or shorten your stay, swap activities, or adjust accommodations to perfectly match your interests and budget.
What is the best time of year to take this trip?
The trip is great all year! May to September (winter) is best for game viewing in Kruger as vegetation is sparse. October to April (summer) is ideal for Cape Town’s beaches and sees beautiful birdlife in Kruger.
Is this a luxury-only trip?
No. While we offer high-end options, Ekuseni caters to individual budgets from mid-range to high-end. We tailor the accommodations to ensure comfort and quality at your preferred price point.
What does 'Safari' mean at Ekuseni?
We use the word Safari exclusively to refer to the trip and activities specifically focused on seeing wildlife in their natural habitat, which in this itinerary is the time spent in the Kruger area.
Are self-drive tours an option for this itinerary?
Currently, Ekuseni does not offer self-drive tour services. We prefer to take care of all the logistics and driving so you can fully relax and enjoy your experience, like visiting a friend.
Will we see the Big 5?
While nature is unpredictable, the Kruger area, especially the surrounding private reserves, offers some of the best opportunities in the world to see the Big 5. The amount of time dedicated in this itinerary greatly increases your chances!
What are the accommodation types?
We offer a range from charming boutique guesthouses and mid-range hotels in Cape Town to luxurious, all-inclusive private game lodges in the Kruger area.
How much time do you recommend for each location?
We recommend at least 3-4 full days in Cape Town to cover the city, Peninsula, and Winelands, and 3-4 full days for the Safari in Kruger for the best chance of varied wildlife sightings. Our 10-day itinerary provides this excellent balance.
Is an optional road trip available from Cape Town to Kruger?
Yes, while we recommend flying as the primary option, we can arrange a multi-day scenic road trip between Cape Town and the Kruger area as a flexible alternative, though it takes significantly longer (2-3 days).
