5-Day Cape Town Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Cape Town
Upon your arrival at Cape Town International Airport (CPT), your friendly Ekuseni driver will provide a seamless transfer to your accommodation. The rest of your arrival day is intentionally left completely free, giving you the flexibility you need after your flight.
If you arrive early during the day, and you feel like stretching your legs and getting a quick feel for the area, our favorite suggestion is to grab a delicious takeout from the V&A Food Market and then take a leisurely sunset stroll along the Sea Point Promenade.
Day 2: City, Heights & Colourful History
We’ll start the morning early to catch the revolving cable car up Table Mountain before the crowds arrive for those unbelievable panoramic views over the city and Atlantic Seaboard.
Once we descend, we’ll grab a casual, hearty lunch in the City Bowl. The afternoon will be spent soaking up the atmosphere of the Bo-Kaap (Malay Quarter); wandering the streets with their iconic coloured houses and learning the story behind this historic neighbourhood is a must.
Day 3: The Spectacular Cape Peninsula Road Trip
Today, we take on the famous Cape Peninsula Scenic Drive, considered one of the world’s best drives, and it’s all in our comfortable private vehicle. We’ll follow the coast, driving past the brightly coloured bathing boxes at Muizenberg and stopping for a coffee and a browse in bohemian Kalk Bay.
The highlight for many is the visit to Boulders Beach to see the African Penguins waddling about. From there, we continue to the dramatic cliffs of Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope.
The grand finale of the drive is the magnificent Chapman’s Peak Drive, which we time perfectly for the gorgeous golden hour light as we head back toward the city.
Day 4: History, Culture & Leisure
This morning is dedicated to a meaningful and important part of South African history. You have the crucial choice between taking the ferry for the deeply moving visit to Robben Island or spending time reflecting at the District Six Museum.
The afternoon is all about winding down and enjoying the Cape Town lifestyle. You might want to grab some final unique souvenirs and artisanal crafts at The Watershed market, or maybe settle in for a long, relaxed final lunch at one of the stylish, ocean-front restaurants in Camps Bay to soak up the stunning Atlantic views before we prepare for your departure tomorrow.
Day 5: Departure
Our driver will transfer you from your accommodation directly to Cape Town International Airport (CPT) for your flight home or your next destination. This day is fully reserved for travel flexibility. If your flight is in the evening, we highly recommend a peaceful visit to the incredible Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, it’s the perfect, relaxed final stop for your 5-day Cape Town adventure.

Common Questions, Expert Answers
When is the best time to visit Cape Town?
The best time is generally from September to April (Spring, Summer, and Autumn). Summer (Dec-Feb) is peak season with the best beach weather, while Spring (Sep-Nov) and Autumn (Mar-May) offer pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds.
How do we get to Cape Town?
You will fly into Cape Town International Airport (CPT).
How is transport arranged during the tour?
All your transport, including airport transfers and daily road trips, is in a private, comfortable vehicle with an expert Ekuseni driver-guide. This ensures maximum flexibility and comfort—we take care of the driving so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
How difficult are the activities?
Most activities are easy to moderate. The Table Mountain cable car is easy, and the Cape Peninsula Scenic Drive is relaxed. The only strenuous option would be choosing a guided hike up Table Mountain instead of the cable car.
Is this a luxury tour?
Ekuseni caters to your individual budget. While we offer a high-level, expert service, we can customize your accommodation and transfers from mid-range to high-end, ensuring the 5-day trip fits your preferred style and comfort level.
Can I add a Safari trip to this itinerary?
Yes, many people combine this! The best way to extend is by flying from Cape Town to the Kruger National Park area or one of the private reserves near Johannesburg. We always recommend flying for this transfer.
Is it better to fly or drive between Cape Town and Kruger/Johannesburg?
Due to the very long distance, we highly recommend flying for the transfer. However, we can certainly arrange an optional, multi-day road trip if you prefer to see more of the South African landscape.
What should I pack for this Cape Town trip?
Cape Town is famous for its quickly changing weather, so pack layers! We suggest light clothing for the day, a warm jacket for evenings and the summit of Table Mountain, and comfortable walking shoes.
Are self-drive tours an option?
Currently, Ekuseni does not offer self-drive tour services. We prefer to take care of all the driving and logistics so you can truly relax and feel like you are being hosted by a friend.
How flexible is the itinerary?
Extremely flexible! That’s the Ekuseni promise. Day 1 and Day 5 are free for your flights, and we can easily adjust the schedule (like spending more time with the penguins or at a museum) if you feel inspired.
